More Medical Schools Drop Animal LabsRobert Wood
Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J., has agreed to drop all animal laboratories
from its medical teaching curriculum. PCRM had been working to convince the school to use
better teaching methods which eliminate animal use. This fall, the school joins Harvard,
Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and many other prestigious medical schools with an entirely
animal-free curriculum.
The school still has animal laboratories in research, but we are pleased to see this
important step of progress in eliminating animal use.
In addition, medical schools at the University of Missouri at Columbia and Technion
University in Haifa, Israel, are following suit. PCRMs video Alternatives in
Medical Education was sent to both schools. PCRM Advisory Board member Henry J.
Heimlich, M.D., and Nina Natelson of Concern for Helping Animals in Israel also encouraged
the school to make the change. |
