A Lifesaving Method Marilu
Henner, Alice Walker, Edward Asner, and Kevin Eubanks have joined PCRM's "Do It for
Someone You Love" campaign, spreading the good news about vegetarian nutrition. The
public service announcements begin running in October on television stations nationwide,
as well as in newspapers, magazines, and on radio stations.
Experience Drives Henner's Nutrition
Advocacy
Marilu Henner's interest in health began after she lost her father
to heart disease and her mother to arthritis complications. After struggling with dozens
of diets, she became committed to finding better ways of getting in shape and staying
strong. She is now an outspoken proponent of preventive medicine through better nutrition.
Ms. Henner recently spoke in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Society for Women's
Health Research, where she urged the medical community to increase its efforts to educate
women about their risk for heart disease. She spoke of her dismay in seeing a female
friend suffer a heart attack when the media so often depicts it as a "man's
disease." She urged the audience of health professionals to put prevention
initiatives on top of their health care agendas, including information on the power of
low-fat, vegetarian diets for reducing heart disease and many other chronic illnesses. |
