Low-Fat Diet Alters Taste Buds
A low-fat diet increases sensitivity in taste buds to fatty foods in those with obesity, according to a study published in Obesity. Participants followed either a low-fat diet or a portion-controlled diet for six weeks and reported sensitivity to fat taste. While both groups lost weight, those who followed the low-fat diet decreased their fat thresholds and their perceptions of fatty foods more so than those who consumed the portion controlled diet. These findings support the use of low-fat diets to increase satiety in obesity treatment.
