Speaker: Ruth Marlin, M.D., associate director of the Northern California Melanoma Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. She worked as the director of medical education and medical director of the Prostate Cancer Lifestyle and Geminal trials in collaboration with the University of California and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Marlin is a board-certified internist with training from the University of Tennessee, the Mayo Clinic, and the University of British Columbia. 

Synopsis: Dr. Marlin will present her Prostate Cancer Lifestyle Trial research with Dr. Dean Ornish at the Preventive Medicine Research Institute (PMRI).

Intended Audience: Internists, oncologists, registered dieticians, registered nurses, and cancer researchers.

Objectives: Upon completion of attending this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Comprehend the results of the PMRI Prostate Cancer Lifestyle Trial.
  • Understand results from other scientific trials evaluating lifestyle interventions on prostate cancer.
  • Discuss clinical recommendations for lifestyle change and supplementation in men with prostate cancer in the context of evidence-based information.

Ruth Marlin, M.D.

Ruth Marlin, M.D.

Ruth Marlin, M.D., is a board-certified internist with training from the University of Tennessee, the Mayo Clinic, and the University of British Columbia. She worked in private practice for many years, with a strong emphasis on prevention and patient education, and has given numerous lectures on lifestyle factors affecting heart disease, diabetes, and prostate cancer. 

For 15 years, she worked with Dr. Dean Ornish at the Preventive Medicine Research Institute as a lifestyle retreat physician. She also worked as the director of medical education and medical director of the Prostate Cancer Lifestyle and Geminal trials in collaboration with the University of California and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Marlin is now the associate director of the Northern California Melanoma Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, where she also offers integrative medicine consultations.

Dr. Marlin is a diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society for Integrative Oncology.
