House Passes Child Nutrition Reauthorization
The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Senate child nutrition reauthorization bill this December. PCRM doctors and dietitians say the bill is a step forward but are urging Congress to do more to support healthful vegetarian school meal options.
“We’re delighted that the new legislation increases funding for schools to purchase healthier foods and removes some of the junk food from schools,” said Elizabeth Kucinich, PCRM’s director of public and governmental affairs. “But much more is still needed. Priority must now be to get healthy plant-based foods into schools to ensure the health and vitality of our children.”
PCRM nutrition and legislative experts will continue to work with members of Congress to strengthen child nutrition policies.
