Staff Writer and Editor

About PCRM

The Physicians Committee is a nonprofit organization working toward compassionate and effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. Since 1985, PCRM has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. Over the years, we have taken on battles to end ethically questionable experiments involving children and inhumane animal experiments and have worked to improve science education. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do.

About this Career Opportunity

PCRM is looking for a highly skilled writer and editor to join our team. If you are a wordsmith, can detect grammatical errors from a mile away, and want to promote plant-based diets and ethical research, we want to hear from you. The position involves editing and proofreading Web and print content such as fact sheets, program materials, fliers, and development letters under time constraints; writing, researching, and fact checking; and the ability to synthesize many different ideas into well-thought-out reports, op-eds, and letters. This is a full-time position located at PCRM’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

The communications department is fast-paced, ambitious, and tenacious – we are looking for a team player who will tackle his or her work with a sense of urgency, persistence, and vigor. If you share these qualities, are passionate about PCRM's mission to advance the field of preventive medicine and research, are meticulously organized, are an avid reader of the news, love writing and researching, and are looking to make the world a better place, we'd like to hear from you.

How to Apply

In your cover letter, please tell us about your salary requirements, accomplishments, and any experience you have with persuasive writing, plant-based nutrition, and/or advocacy. Please also answer the following questions:

  • Why is it that you want a position at PCRM specifically (as opposed to another public interest organization)?
  • What elements make writing persuasive?
  • Based on your experience, what is the most common error you find when editing and how do you correct it?

Send your cover letter, resume, and your best published opinion editorial to careers@pcrm.org and reference the position title in your subject line. Applications that do not include a writing sample and answers to the above questions in the cover letter will not be considered. We look forward to hearing from you!
