Research Scientist (Ph.D.)

Primary Areas of Responsibility and Specific Duties

  • Medical Writing
    • Lead, perform, author, submit, and publish peer-reviewed articles on topics including but not limited to transspecies extrapolation of research findings, problems with the effectiveness of animal research, and the predictive value of animal experimentation for human health outcomes
    • Author and produce relevant background materials for PCRM campaigns and initiatives
    • Submit critical public comments to relevant institutions as opportunities are identified
    • Contribute op-eds, letters to the editor, and other lay publications relevant to PCRM’s mission
  • Outreach and Collaboration
    • Attend and present at professional medical and scientific conferences on issues relevant to PCRM’s mission
    • Identify, pursue, and lead areas of potential collaboration with leaders within federal regulatory agencies, scientific and medical professional organizations, and the pharmaceutical industry
    • Represent PCRM in other areas including educational outreach on Capitol Hill, the public, and with our membership

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Education
    • Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Experience
    • Leadership experience preferred
    • Campaign experience preferred
    • Research experience preferred
    • Regulatory experience preferred
    • Medical writing experience preferred
  • Skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to professionally advocate PCRM’s position on issues and summarize key issues and activities
    • Ability to lead and contribute to campaigns as well as other initiatives
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and follow projects through to completion in a very fast-paced environment
    • Creativity
    • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
    • Ability to develop solutions to any identified problems
    • Professional skills, demeanor, and work ethic
    • Ability to maintain a sense of enthusiasm, urgency, efficiency, and flexibility
  • Other Requirements
    • Enthusiasm for and dedication to PCRM’s mission
    • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends on occasion, as needed
    • Interest in developing new competencies as needed for the responsibilities of the position
    • Ability and willingness to travel to related seminars, conferences, training, meetings, etc.

Terms of employment: Full-time in PCRM’s Washington, D.C., office (Friendship Heights neighborhood/metro)
