About the Physicians Committee
The Physicians Committee is leading a revolution in medicine—putting a new focus on health and compassion. The Physicians Committee combines the clout and expertise of more than 12,000 physicians with the dedicated actions of 150,000 members across the United States and around the world. Our efforts are dramatically changing the way doctors treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. By putting prevention over pills, doctors are empowering their patients to take control of their own health.
And we are also building a new way of viewing research. Since 1985, the Physicians Committee has been working tirelessly for alternatives to the use of animals in medical education and research and advocating for more effective scientific methods. Our staff of physicians, dietitians, and scientists is working with policymakers, industry, the medical community, the media, and the public to create a better future for people and animals. About this Career Opportunity
After nearly 30 years of clinical research and preventive medicine advocacy and education, the Physicians Committee will be expanding its lifesaving work by opening the Barnard Medical Center to help even more people reverse diabetes, lose weight, lower cholesterol, and prevent cancer. We are looking for physicians to not only treat patients at this new primary care medical clinic based at our Washington, D.C., headquarters, but to also work with them to prevent chronic diseases, with a strong focus on diabetes, obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, and other nutrition-related disorders.
In addition to clinical work, Physicians Committee staff physicians will contribute a portion of their time to the organization’s initiatives to educate physicians, health care professionals, legislators, and the public about plant-based nutrition and serve as spokespersons for our campaigns and programs. This is a full-time position located at the Physicians Committee’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. While the clinic is expected to open in November 2015, we are looking for medical doctors to join the clinic ahead of its opening to assist with startup and promotion.
The Physicians Committee is fast paced, ambitious, and tenacious—we are looking for a team player who will tackle his or her work with a sense of urgency, persistence and vigor, and a dedication to nutrition and preventive medicine. If you share these qualities; are board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, or other relevant specialty; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; have a strong interest in plant-based diets; and a desire to help make the practice of family medicine one that emphasizes prevention over treatment, we'd like to hear from you. Experience with the administrative side of managing a practice is a plus.
The Medical Doctor can work either a full-time or a part-time schedule. While the clinic is expected to open in November 2015, the ideal candidate will be able to join the clinic ahead of its opening to assist with startup and promotion, though we can be flexible with the start date and with hours.
This position offers competitive compensation, with the possibility of bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package. The Physicians Committee also supports continuing medical education and professional development.
This position is located at the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
