Government Affairs Manager

The Government Affairs Manger acts as liaison between PCRM (including its affiliated organizations) and outside government relations specialists in representing PCRM before Congress, state legislatures, and federal and state regulatory agencies.

Primary Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage overall legislative issue campaigns
  • Review and analyze legislation and regulations, conduct research, prepare public education and lobbying materials
  • Directly lobby members of Congress and state legislators and their staff, respond to information requests
  • Develop media strategies, act as spokesperson to the media
  • Coordinate coalition activities with other organizations
  • Organize miscellaneous special events

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Education
    • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required, advanced degree (JD, MBA) preferred
  • Experience
    • Previous experience in lobbying, advocacy, or public policy
  • Skills
    • Understanding of federal and state legislative processes
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to professionally advocate PCRM’s positions on issues and summarize key issues and activities
    • Ability to produce written work very quickly
    • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
    • Demonstrated ability to use judgment in managing relationships with both internal and external audiences and contacts
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, meet deadlines, and see projects through to completion in a very fast-paced environment
    • Ability to develop solutions to any identified problems
    • Professional skills, demeanor, and work ethic
    • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, efficiency, and flexibility
  • Other
    • An interest in and commitment to the objectives of the organization
    • Ability and willingness to travel to related seminars, conferences, training, meetings, etc.
    • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed

Terms of employment: Full-time in PCRM’s Washington, D.C., office (Friendship Heights neighborhood/Metro)
