Research Program Coordinator

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is seeking a Research Program Coordinator to join its Toxicology & Research department, which encourages higher standards for ethics and effectiveness in research by working to eliminate and promote alternatives to animal experimentation.

Primary Responsibilities and Specific Duties:

Coordinate, manage, and implement strategy, plans, timelines, and agendas for designated campaigns -

  • Facilitate day-to-day forward movement of all ongoing campaigns
  • Draft support materials, including literature, web materials, action alerts, and web site content
  • Plan mailings, advertising opportunities, and materials production
  • Plan and/or attend campaign-related events
  • Correspond with the public and members of the charity, business, medical, and education communities
  • Perform research to support and develop campaigns
  • Represent PCRM’s campaigns to the media and the general public
  • Travel when necessary to carry out campaigns
  • Track campaign-related expenses
  • Participate in development of future campaigns
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned

Additional Qualifications:

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

Education-

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in a life sciences or related field

Experience-

  • Two years work experience preferred but not required
  • Campaign-related work experience preferred but not required
  • Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred

Skills-

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to persuasively advocate PCRM’s positions on issues
  • Ability and interest in learning basic medical and biological concepts and become comfortable with biomedical research terminology, issues, and scientific literature related to medical research
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and follow projects through to completion
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions
  • Professional skills, demeanor, and work ethic
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, efficiency, and flexibility
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite

Other -

  • Enthusiasm for PCRM’s mission and objectives
  • Ability and willingness to travel to related seminars, conferences, training, meetings, etc.
  • Interest in developing new competencies as needed for the responsibilities of the position
  • Ability and willingness work evenings and weekends as needed

Terms of employment: Full-time in PCRM’s Washington, D.C., office (Friendship Heights neighborhood).
