Administrative Assistant
PCRM is seeking an Administrative Assistant to provide support to its Toxicology & Research department, which promotes higher ethical standards in research and promotes alternatives to animal experimentation.
Primary Areas of Responsibility & Specific Duties:
- Complete financial and administrative tasks for the department such as production request forms, check request forms, credit card statements, copying, opening and sorting mail, etc.
- Set up departmental meetings, including reserving conference room space
- Organize and maintain files
- Draft and send correspondence
- Schedule interviews, meetings, conferences, etc.
- Secure travel arrangements and accommodations
- Conduct literature searches and retrieve articles from library as necessary
- Assist in legislative and campaign-related research and information gathering tasks
- Assist in planning legislative and campaign-related events
- Correspond with the public and members of the charity, business, medical, policy, and education communities
- Maintain campaign databases
- Fulfill mailings as needed
- Coordinate the ordering of new campaign materials
- Maintain online advertising
- Copying, faxing, and scanning documents for campaigns and short-term projects
- Assistance with presentation and publication submissions
- Provide back-up support to PCRM’s main reception
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned
Required Education, Experience & Skills:
Education-
- Undergraduate degree preferred
Experience-
- Experience with or aptitude for administrative duties
- Experience with animal advocacy campaigns preferred
- Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred
Skills-
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan multiple initiatives efficiently, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines and in a very fast-paced environment
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to learn basic medical and biological concepts and become comfortable with biomedical research terminology, issues and scientific literature related to medical research
- Ability to foster good relationships with campaign volunteers and activists
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including proficiency in word processing, data entry, and use of the Internet, including familiarity and skill with search engines
- Ability to develop solutions to any identified problems or issues
- Professional skills, demeanor, and work ethic
- Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, efficiency, and flexibility

- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Interest in developing new competencies as needed for the responsibilities of the position
Terms of employment: Full-time in PCRM’s Washington, D.C., office (Friendship Heights neighborhood/metro)
